It's time to join the fun on Steampunk Saturday
This blog is about new paperless reading materials like downloadable audio books, ebooks, and online magazines, made available to you through the Appleton Public Library. I plan to provide helpful tips on using these new products, along with reviews of audio books, music on cd, and movies on DVD and Blu-ray. There may even be an occasional post on genealogy. The library is changing as rapidly as your access to media and the Internet. We want to keep on top of the trends and bring you information and entertainment in a way that fits your life today. -Diana
Steampunk Saturday at the Appleton Public Library, on October 13 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, is your chance to learn more about Steampunk. This culture and genre represents a fascinating Victorian world that never was. Our presenter, Catherine Noble Beyer, will explain the history of steampunk from the age of Jules Verne to modern-day books and film. Create a Fascinator to be worn in your hair, a Zeppelin service medal, or a Steampunk Firefly Lantern. Make Victorian paper crafts, or a Mustache Monocle. Victorian-style photographs will be taken and emailed to you, for free.
Are you planning to view the amazing Leonardo da Vinci "Machines in Motion" exhibit at the History Museum at the Castle? Attend on October 13, when Appleton Public Library and the History Museum at the Castle are providing a Steampunk Reception Tea from 3:00pm to 4:30 pm. Mingle with costumed Steampunk enthusiasts and enjoy tea and treats. An entry fee is required for the exhibit; see http://www.myhistorymuseum.org/machinesinmotion.html for details. Please register for the Tea through the library events calendar at www.apl.org or by calling 920-832-6173 to reserve your spot.
