Max Garland is Wisconsin’s 5th poet laureate. He has been a professor at UW-Eau Claire since 1996 and is the author of two award-winning poetry collections: The Postal Confessions (winner of the 1995 Juniper Prize in poetry) and Hunger Wide As Heaven (winner of the 2005 Cleveland State University Poetry Center Prize) as well as the chapbook, Apparitions (Parallel Press, UW Libraries, 1999). His work—poems, essays and short stories—have been featured in numerous publications. In addition, he’s a member of the Eau Claire-based band Eggplant Heroes, which plays literary-inspired folk and Americana.
