Family Stories: A Library Burns When an Elder Dies

"A Library Burns When an Elder Dies"--this African proverb emphasizes how much oral history we carry in our heads, and how it is lost if we don’t share it.  Unfortunately we rarely write these stories down for future generations.

Folklorist Larry Danielson will explore the uses of family stories in researching your genealogy, and what they can tell us about our family past and about our own attitudes towards that family past.

During the second half of the program, you may share a family story to see the role it plays in your family tradition and the information it provides about your family’s past.

Part of the Find Your Ancestors genealogy series, this program takes place on Saturday, December 10, from 2:00-3:30 pm in Lower Level Meeting Room C.   No registration required for this free program.
