APL Facility Study
…finding the best way to meet the community’s future library service needs

Appleton Public Library is undertaking a study, looking at library facility needs of the community in the short and long term. We received a $10,000 grant from the Appleton Library Foundation for this purpose, and $40,000 in our 2008 City budget.

Durrant, the firm that designed our 1996 addition, is working with Himmel & Wilson Library Consultants for library & community input and Linda Miller as technology consultant. The Library Board Building and Equipment Committee, with input from Library and City staff as well as the Library Foundation Board, is overseeing the study process. There have been focus groups of community members and library staff, two surveys, interviews with staff and community leaders, and a public meeting on April 23. The presentation given at that meeting is accessible via the links at right.

Altogether there has been input from about 1,000 people in the Appleton Public Library service community.

This video, circa 1989 from the Appleton Library Foundation, gives us a glimpse of the library prior to its last renovation. Take a look and see how things have changed. Maybe you'll even recognize someone!
