New InfoSoup Coming Soon!

This September our online catalog, InfoSoup, is getting a new look. The new InfoSoup will let you search not only library materials, but also select online databases for article information. You'll also be able to checkout ebooks from Overdrive directly from the catalog, while popular features like saving lists or tracking checkout history will still be available.

You are invited to check out the new catalog starting now, with the official switch over to the new InfoSoup happening mid to late September. If you have questions about the new look, or how to search for items, please let us know.

When you’re hungry for answers, give the new InfoSoup a taste!

Fox Arts Network FAN Pass

We're excited to announce our newest program, FAN Pass. We've partnered with over 20 local educational, art and entertainment organizations to bring this unique program to you. Starting mid-September we will have various free offers for you to "check out" from our partner organizations. A display with all of the offers will be set up near our Children's Services entrance beginning September 14.

How does it work?
1. Select an offer of your choice from the display located near Children's Services.
2. Bring the laminated FAN Pass display card to the library Information Desk, along with your library card.
3. Staff will give you a voucher in exchange for the display card. Once you receive the voucher, there is no need to worry about returning anything to the library.
4. The organization you choose your offer from will collect the voucher in exchange for admission. Most organizations will require you to contact them in advance to receive admission tickets. Contact information for organizations, along with instructions on how to redeem your offer, can be found on the voucher you receive.

FAN Pass Guidelines
1. Some offers will change monthly.
2. Passes are available on a first-come, first-served basis and cannot be reserved.
3. You may use one pass per family per month.
4. Passes are only available for one-time use.
5. A library card in good standing (fines under $5.00) is needed to check out the pass.
6. Passes are good for the stated offer only.

If you have questions about FAN Pass, please let us know. For a list of future and current partners, please see the PDF located below.

Summer 2015 Newsletter and Updates

In June, the Appleton Common Council voted to not authorize the City of Appleton to make an offer to the owners of Fox Banquets & Rivertyme Catering and Trinity Lutheran Church, also known as the “bluff site”. It became clear last year, that talking about sites and concepts had more people paying attention to the mission and needs of the library than prior articles, television news stories, focus groups and meetings had done.

Our work has been intentionally inclusive, and we won’t stop being inclusive with this decision. Not everyone agreed with the proposed site, and the reality is, there will not be a site or option presented that will have universal support. However, the foundation for moving forward is that everyone’s opinions need to be treated with respect. If we want people to participate, everyone should feel as valued as those who have come before them. This means the input we receive will be broad and diverse, and while the needs of the library haven’t changed, we need to move forward in a productive a manner.

While we take time to gather feedback about the process, our staff continues to connect patrons to important resources. This newsletter is filled with examples. Please take note of the Reach Out and Read update, found on page six. This national evidence-based program is being implemented regionally through a grant from the United Way - Fox Cities.

At APL, we are honored to serve as the facilitator between local clinics, non-profits and area libraries ensuring that eventually all Fox Cities children will have a Reach Out and Read experience in their well-child visits, and families will be connected to the library whose resources are most convenient to them.

Appleton has high expectations and at APL we continue to work to meet the needs of our community in ways that address our longstanding mission through important collaborations like Reach Out and Read and the dozens of other ways you will read about through our newsletters.
