Reach Out and Read Book Drive

In January, we received a grant from United Way to further a national program known as Reach Out and Read. The goal of the program is to work with medical providers to promote early literacy during well-child visits, by giving new books to children and advising parents on the importance of reading aloud to their children.

From July 13 through August 8, we are partnering up with area medical clinics and libraries, as well as the YMCA, Half-Price Books and The Building for Kids, to host a book drive to help area Reach Out and Read clinics. All books donated will be placed in Reach Out and Read clinics for children to use during their checkup.

How can you help support the Reach Out and Read program?

1. Donate new books in-person near the front entrance of the library.

2. Make a monetary donation. APL will purchase books for you! Place your monetary donation in the envelope provided near the entrance of the library and turn in to any service desk. Cash or checks are accepted. Please make checks payable to Friends of Appleton Public Library.

3. Make a purchase at Barnes & Noble Friday, July 24 and a percentage of your purchase will be donated to the local Reach Out and Read program.

Visit the Reach Out and Read website for more information about the program.
