The meeting was called to order at 5:10 PM


The minutes of the March 13, 2000 meeting were reviewed; Bloedow moved approval, Bergen seconded and the motion passed. Bergen moved approval of the March, 2000 bill register and Bloedow seconded. The motion passed.

Policy Committee Report

Parker moved the recommendation of the Policy Committee that the revisions to the Materials Selection Policy as presented by staff be adopted. She noted that a Glossary of terms had also been created, which will become a part of the complete Policy Manual. Bergen seconded the motion, which carried unanimously. Parker moved the Policy Committee recommendation that the revisions to the Personnel Policy presented by staff be approved. Bergman seconded, the motion passed.

Dawson explained that several additions and changes to the City schedule of fringe benefits had been approved by Council at their last meeting. He will work with library staff to bring a proposal to the Board for appropriate changes to Library policy based on those changes.

Director’s Report

Dawson noted that the Library would be hosting many activities and programs during National Library Week, including the "Kids Connect @ the Library" day last Saturday. A new ParenTech workstation has been deployed in the Children's Services area. At City Council last Wednesday evening, Mayor Hanna proclaimed it National Library Week in Appleton, and Joyce Bytof presented a silver bowl to Don and Berta Churchill in recognition of all of their volunteer efforts for the library over the years. The Very Special Arts and Volunteer Recognition Reception is scheduled for Monday evening after the Board meeting. Other activities will include the FOAL annual meeting, a special Book 'n Bite program, a poetry reading with jazz accompaniment, and Internet instruction classes.

Other Business

Dawson reported that he had prepared a packet of information for City Council members about the Library's efforts to assist people in learning about the Internet.

The meeting adjourned at 6:00 PM. Next meeting will be held at 5:00 PM and May 8, 2000.
