Help with Ancestry Library Edition
Connecting on your laptop at the Library
Ancestry uses referring URLs for authentication. This means you need to get to Ancestry using the link on the Appleton Public Library or InfoSoup website. When Ancestry sees you came from one of those sites, it will ask you for your library card number. Bookmarking the Ancestry page means you’ll be missing the referral information and can’t enter your card number for access.
Browser security settings, anti-virus programs, browser caches, and more can get in the way of sending a referring URL. Try using a different browser, private window, or clearing cache if you’re having trouble accessing Ancestry on your laptop in the library building.
Ancestry Library Edition versus Ancestry.com
With Ancestry Library Edition:
- You can’t upload documents, photos, add stories, or interact with users of the regular edition of Ancestry.
- Information can’t be shared within the program.
- The Ancestry World Tree and Message Boards are “read only” for those using Ancestry Library Edition.
