Thousands of free history articles, images, maps, videos and timelines. I am sure the patrons of Appleton Public Library will find this website useful to learn about global history, from ancient times to the first colonies in the Americas and beyond.

World History Encyclopedia is one of the world’s most-read history publications with nearly 30 million annual readers. Their non-profit organization’s mission is to engage people with cultural heritage and improve history education worldwide. The encyclopedia is written at an academic level but is easy to read; they highlight the “story” aspect of history. Everything is searchable by keywords, categories, time periods and subject matter. They also publish videos and audio articles, giving people many different ways to learn about history.

Unlike Wikipedia our editors review every submission before publication, and unlike Encyclopaedia Britannica everything is accessible for free (there are no hidden fees).
