Introducing Appleton’s First Poet Laureate, Cathryn Cofell
We’re happy to announce the launch of the City of Appleton’s first-ever Poet Laureate program, a historic initiative that celebrates the power of poetry in our community. On Friday, September 27, 2024 from 5:30 to 6:30 pm, you’re invited to the Scheig Center at Memorial Park for a special event honoring the newly appointed Poet Laureate, Cathryn Cofell.
This event will include a reading by Cathryn, reflections on the role of poetry in civic life, a special unveiling of a poem featured in the renovated library, and an interactive poetry activity. You’ll also have the opportunity to meet Cathryn and enjoy light refreshments.
“A single poem can educate and inspire, can evoke anger, joy, pain, and delight all at once. What one person experiences from a poem, a laureate can amplify to many, connecting this community in a powerful way,” says Cathryn Cofell, the new Poet Laureate. “By embracing poetry, Appleton is fostering a community that values creativity and forward-thinking.”
The Poet Laureate program represents a significant step in Appleton’s cultural development, providing a platform for poetry to inspire and engage citizens. This event marks the start of a new chapter in Appleton’s rich artistic heritage.
