Use our obituary index to discover the date, section, and page an obituary or death notice appears in Appleton newspapers.
How to Use the Index
Enter the information into the fields below and click submit. You can search for a specific person, a date of death, or entries published within a range of dates.
Please note, this is just a partial index. Our obituary index is an ongoing project, adding current and historic entries regularly for several Appleton newspapers. Full content from obituaries and death notices are not available online due to federal copyright law. However, we own microfilm of most Appleton newspapers going back to 1853 or you can request a free copy of the obituary.
Obtaining Copies
After locating an entry in the index, you can come into the library to use the microfilm to get a copy of the obituary.
If the obituary or death notice is from 1999 or after, you may access a full-text version of it by using Post-Crescent Online (ProQuest Newspapers). This database is available to Appleton Public Library card holders only.
You can also request we email you the obituary. Click on “view details” for the entry you would like, then select “Request a Copy.” Fill in your contact information and submit your request. We’ll look up the obituary and email you a copy within two weeks of the request.
