* Interlibrary Loan at Appleton Public Library

Can't find what you're looking for? Items not found in the catalog can be requested to be borrowed through Interlibrary Loan. This means that the item is owned by a library outside of the InfoSoup community of libraries. Please check the InfoSoup Catalog before submitting a request to see if it available within our local system.

You must be at least 18 years old to request an item through ILL.  Your library card must have less than $5 in fines on it and no unpaid replacement fees.  Teacher cards may not be used for interlibrary loan requests. Interlibrary loan items must be picked up at the Appleton Public Library and returned to the Appleton Public Library at the circulation desk.

What items may be borrowed?

-      Books, DVDs, VHS tapes, Music CDs, LPs and cassettes, and Audiobook CDs

not found in the InfoSoup Catalog, as long as they were published more than two years ago. We prefer to purchase newer materials. You can check publication dates on Amazon.com. Please use the Suggest a Purchase form for these items. We are also able to borrow Microfilm reels for use in the library.

What is the loan period?

-      The loaning institution determines the checkout period. Generally, loan periods are three to four weeks from the time the library receives the item. If you need a specific loan period for an item, make sure you mention that when you are placing your request.

-      Rare/fragile books, books owned by the Library of Congress, and microfilm may be obtained through ILL, but may only be used within the library.

Can I renew items?

-      Items may be renewed once if the lending library agrees to it. Therefore, we must contact the lending library before we can allow you to renew the item. It might take several days for us to receive this approval.

-      Please request renewal at least five days before the due date. You can do so by calling the library or requesting a renewal in person at any of our service desks.

What is the fine for overdue items?

Appleton Public Library policy determines the overdue fine. Fees for lost items are determined by the lending library.

How many items may be requested?

You may have five pending ILL requests at a time. ILL staff keeps track of these requests, so please do not submit more than five requests at a time.

When can I expect my ILL to arrive?

-      It can take one to four weeks on average for an ILL to come in. If it is coming from out of state, the time period could be longer.

-      Please makes sure to note on your request form, or inform the staff member taking your request, if you have a specific deadline for when you need the item.

How will I be notified when the item is ready to be picked up?

-      A hold will be placed on your account when the item arrives at the Appleton Public Library.

-      An email/print notice will be sent out at this time

-      Your hold will not be on the regular holds shelf. Please notify staff at the Circulation Desk that you have an interlibrary loan item to pick up and they will check it out for you.

-      If you would like to inquire on the status of your ILL item(s) please email askus@apl.org or ask a staff member to contact the ILL department for you.
